LGBTQ+ people are a sizeable minority in New Mexico and experience behavioral health concerns at rates higher than the general population. Thus it is essential that everyone working in and referring to the 988 program understand the barriers to care experienced by LGBTQ+ New Mexicans and know how to address these barriers.
This training will present data about LGBTQ+ people in New Mexico, including what we know about the size and diversity of this community and the health disparities experienced by the community. We then explore steps that can be taken to ensure that LGBTQ+ people feel safe using the 988 system and that their interaction with the system is welcoming, supportive and culturally appropriate.
Please Note: Exact locations will be provided to registrants two weeks prior to each event.
